Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How will the City pay for building the Salina Aquatic Park?
- The City Commission has developed a plan to pay for the
Salina Aquatic Park through a 0.15 cent sales tax in addition to
the existing 0.25 cent sales tax that is currently used for
general capitol improvement programs, economic development and
property tax stabilization.
Salina Citizens will be asked to vote on the measure as part of
the November 4th, 2008 general election ballot.
If I vote to build the Salina Aquatic Park, how
much more sales tax would be paid on a $100 purchase I make?
How will construction of this facility benefit
the local economy?
-
Beyond the fact that this will be a
wonderful new facility with features to appeal to all age
groups, there will be a significant
economic gain realized by all of Salina.
-
Building the Salina Aquatic Park to include modern features
that people desire will encourage visitors from outside of
Salina. This will result directly in increased revenues at the
facility and will also translate into increased hotel stays,
restaurant sales and local business sales.
-
Since sales tax will
be used to construct the new facility, every dollar paid by
visitors to Salina helps pay for our facility and many other
city improvements we all use. The multiplier effect will
reverberate throughout the local economy.
-
We will all benefit by
having visitors help support our local economy. Construction of
the Salina Aquatic Park is not only a wonderful amenity for our
community, it is also an investment in the local economy.
-
We will no longer have to spend money
to travel to other aquatic facilities when we will have such a
great facility here in Salina.
-
In addition to boosting our local
economy at a time when such investments in our economy are so
vital, the facility will provide
additional summer jobs for students and others who need such
jobs.
-
For only 15 cents for each $100
purchase we make, we will build this wonderful facility to meet
all the aquatic needs for our citizens of all ages
while making a very important and wise
investment in our economy.
When would the Salina Aquatic Park be open to
the public?
- If the vote passes in November 2008, the new facility will
be opened in June, 2010.
How much will it cost to use the Salina Aquatic
Park if it is constructed?
- Although exact rates for admission have not yet been
determined, it is our goal to keep the entry fees similar to
those charged by other city owned aquatic facilities in our area
so that it is affordable to everyone.
I think the idea of a new facility such as this
is great, how can I help get the word out to others?
- Making others aware of this informational website is a good
start. If you want to be more involved, contact the Salina
Chamber of Commerce at 785-827-9301 or the email address of
