Below are example pictures of some of the elements included in our Salina Aquatic Park Conceptual Plan:

  • Lazy River

A lazy river is a shallow depth channel of water that has a water current  like a slow moving meandering river. People float on one or two person inner tubes around the river. This feature is fun for all ages and usually has different paths that allow the rider to get very wet from spray features or to stay relatively dry. Lazy rivers also serve as a fun, cool method of transportation around the aquatic park. Lazy rivers are also used for water walking and senior exercises.

  • Zero Depth, Beach Style Entry

The zero depth entry areas are those which gently slope from the pool deck into the pool without any sort of step down. These areas are great for ADA access to the pools and for anyone needing the ease of entering the water on a gentle slope. The areas are popular for sitting in the water, playing with small children and just relaxing in shallow water in general.

The main zero entry pool in the our conceptual layout includes a wave pool feature.

  • Slides (large, medium & small)

Slides allow users to enter into pool areas by sitting or lying back and sliding with flowing water into a receiving basin. Slides range from small, mild rides for toddlers and families to giant features using rafts and offering more intense experiences.

  • Interactive Water Play Features

These are features that kids climb around and interact with by turning handles to activate various sorts of water events such as spraying or dumping.

  • Water Obstacle Course

This feature invites users to traverse over floating objects while using a cargo net above head to help maintain balance.

  • Spray / Play Fountains

This feature is a water fountain area that is designed for people to play in and interact with. Although all ages enjoy looking at the fountains, small children are mesmerized while playing in the fountains.

  • Wave Pool

In a wave pool, ocean style waves are periodically generated in a pool with a gradually sloping bottom. This type of pool simulates an experience one would have at the ocean.

  • Lap Swimming Area

A lap swimming area is divided into lanes to allow lap swimming and swim team competition.

  • Diving Boards

    Diving Boards for recreational use.

  • Grass Sunbathing areas

  • Aquatic Theme Landscaping that interacts with features

  • Sunshades throughout the park

What makes a successful municipal aquatic facility?

“A successful municipal aquatic facility is quite simply one that gives its users the first class experience they expect in a safe and healthy environment, while providing the community an economic boost from money spent in the community by visitors to the facility.”

How will we pay for it?

The site for the Salina Aquatic Park is on the abandoned football / track and field location between the Bicentennial Center and the YMCA entrance driveway. The parking lots seen on the Conceptual Layout are those existing by the Bicentennial Center.
